Seasonal allergies occur mostly during the spring and summer months. That is the time when most plants and flowers come into bloom. When plants and flowers first start blooming, they release a large amount of pollen. That pollen is the cause of seasonal allergies for most allergies suffers. A more common seasonal allergy is rose fever. This allergy can cause red, itchy, watery eyes, and chronic sneezing. Seasonal allergies can become severe according to the person. Most people that suffer from seasonal allergy will get allergy shots from their doctor or allergist. The shots are given in a series and require the patient to come at certain times during the year for the shots. The shots build up the immune system to fight the allergen when it returns the following season. Allergy shots can be very expensive however; it sometimes is the only option for some seasonal allergy sufferers.
Using over the counter allergy medicines can treat most seasonal allergies. The majority of seasonal allergies have the more common symptoms of irritated, watery, eyes and sneezing, which can be easily relieved with these medicines. However, those that suffer from high blood pressure, asthma, or heart conditions should consult their doctors before taking these medicines. Most over the counter seasonal allergy medicines are not recommended for people suffering from these conditions.
