What is an allergy to Latex?

This type of allergy is one that causes some individuals to have an allergic reaction when they have come in contact with any type of products that have been made using the substance that is known as natural latex or rubber. Many types of latex products that cause allergic reactions are made from the sap that is produced from rubber trees that can be found in Southeast Asia and in Africa. Some of the most common items that have been known for causing individuals to experience a reaction would include certain medical devices and condoms. Items that are known to be the most common problem causer in people allergic to latex are rubber gloves. Studies have shown that as many as 5 to 10% of the people who work in the health care field suffer from some degree of allergies to the latex they come in contact with. This is thought to be because of the contact that they have on a continuous basis with rubber products and latex, which seems to result in an increase in the symptoms that they experience to these types of products.
