What are wheat allergies?

Food allergies occur when the body’s immune systems reacts to food as if it were the enemy. The immune system produces antibodies to fight the food by releasing histamines into the blood stream. The histamines are what produce the allergic reaction to that specific food. Many people that have wheat allergies cannot eat wheat bread, crackers, rolls or any other product that contains wheat. For those that have food allergies there are a variety of symptoms that can occur if they ingest anything containing the food or ingredient they are allergic to.

There are wide varieties of symptoms that range from very mile to severe when they occur. Some of the milder symptoms include dizziness, nausea, coughing, wheezing, and a mild rash. The more several symptoms include fainting, vomiting, diarrhea, breathing difficulties, choking and the most severe anaphylactic shock. Anaphylactic shock is when the tongue and face area swells accompanied by a rapid decrease in blood pressure, convulsions and can lead to death.

If you or someone around you goes into anaphylactic shock, seek medical attention immediately. If the symptoms are left untreated, the sufferer could lose consciousness and possibly die. Those that suffer from anaphylactic should wear either a medic alert bracelet or medic alert necklace to let others know what to do in the event they go into anaphylactic shock.
